The moment possession is won back, a midfielder bursts directly forward into the space in front of them rather than waiting for the team to build an attack patiently.

Kept the team extremely compact and disciplined out of possession, denying space before an attack could even develop

A deep, defensive-first setup surrenders territory and the ball, leaving it vulnerable to being pinned in its own half for long periods by a technically superior side patient enough to keep probing rather than forcing transitions

His Inter Milan side won consecutive European Cups in the mid-1960s, and the defensively disciplined system he refined became one of the most influential, and most debated, tactical approaches in the sport's history.
