- ›Vary runs between in behind, short to feet, and across the front line to stay unpredictable
- ›Hold the ball up under pressure just long enough for support to arrive
- ›Attack the space between center-backs rather than running straight at them
- ›Lead the press by showing the ball into a predictable, weaker side
Common mistakes
- −Making the same run too often, letting defenders anticipate it
- −Checking to feet too much and never threatening the space in behind
- −Standing still on the shoulder of the last defender instead of working the whole box
