Putting Attacks Together

Width, combination play, false 9 movement, and box runs aren't separate tools. A good attack uses all of them in the same passage of play.

4-3-3 in Full Flow

Wide forwards holding width, an overlapping or underlapping full-back, and a central presence ready to arrive late: all of this module's ideas are visible in a single settled attacking shape.

Recap

Width stretches the defense and opens central space. Overlaps and underlaps combine two attackers against one defender. A false 9 trades a fixed position for the space it creates elsewhere. Box movement only pays off when it's timed to the delivery arriving.

Try it

Go back to the Explore pitch, pick any formation, and identify which players are most likely to provide width and which are most likely to make late runs into the box.
